What isn't loveable about cats? Anyway, Ralph will find another balloon. He'll destroy that one too, but at least he'll always have his future balloon waiting for him.

Oh, I have little doubt someone will find him another. His life must be full of the balloons to pop, must it not? If only our own could be filled with such simple pleasures more.

Past the age of two or something, sure. Maybe up to five. Kids seem like they're easily entertained.

That is what I envy most about them. It is easy for a cat to be happy, and if it gets upset, it finds a way to be happy. You are hard pressed to make a cat truly angry, unless wet.

They will find a way to make their happiness no matter what.

That's because they're good at handling themselves. Cats are selfish in a smart way.

Except for stupid cats. There are always stupid cats out there, just like stupid people.

Though there are far fewer stupid cats than people, far far fewer.

Except stupid cats are still cute, the same does not work for stupid people.

This is correct, so the dumbest cat is always better than the dumbest person, automatically.

Hell yes. Also more likely to make you think the dumb things they do are cute instead of just annoying.

I don't actually have any cats. I just know a lot of people with cats. Some smarter than others.

Oh, I see. I would say that is unfortunate, but I mostly know cats through the same means. I do not own one myself. It's too expensive to have a pet.

Yeah, it's way to expensive. Which sucks, but what can you do? They deserve more than the basic things.

And even the basic things can be quite dear when you live on a budget. But, a part of my dream is to own one eventually.

Yeah, well, I'm sure you'll get there.

I am certain you will eventually too. It is not as if we are both not young, is it? There is plenty of time to earn our way to the vaunted status of pet ownership.

Considering how many people are around this city own pets, that seems doable, yes.

And also considering that I am a firm believer in rescuing a pet at the pound? That I am told is a bit less expensive, but I can't bear the thought of them being left alone in that place, no matter how well intentioned the staff are.

Adoption fees aren't bad, it's the rest?

The shelter lets you volunteer to work with the cats if you have time during their hours.

The shots and such, yes. I will have to remember to stop by one of these days when I have free time, though. It would feel good to help out there.

And, thankfully, I am not allergic.

I have heard that puts you to sleep very effectively. I prefer to be alert when working with kittens. It is usually wisest, after all.

I'm sure if you try hard enough you'll manage to stay awake even with benadryl for the sake of kittens

There is some truth to that, and I suppose having a kitten fall asleep on my face as punishment wouldn't be a terrible way to go, would it?
