[Well, to be fair, he's from western Oregon, so you're not exactly gonna shock him.]
Very well.
But for what it's worth, I would not say that you have been unfaithful. Coveting another in your mind is not a sin unless you actively welcome and nurture such thoughts, which clearly you have not. Your unease is itself proof of your faithfulness,.
Well, father, in these visions I have been doing a great deal more than merely coveting. There has been active unfaithfulness in the things I have seen, and it makes me very uncomfortable to think of myself as being that way.
I will admit, though, that you are the first to remind me that these visions are not necessarily real, and I should not assume as much.
Precisely. We have almost no quantifiable facts about these phenomena, and no reason yet to assume than they are anything more than extremely vivid hallucinations.
And even if they did turn out to be "lost memories" or "alternate dimensions" or whatever the popular fringe theory is right now, then these visions will have been of the actions of a different woman. Not the real, contemporary Chloe Bouchard.
Discomfort can be healthy. Scrupulosity rarely is.
I am not sure there is a 'popular' theory, Father. I think everyone is guessing almost blindly in the dark for the most part. Though, it is at least a little reassuring to think of these things as being distant enough to myself that I should not be quite so worried about them, so long as I am not repeating her choices.
